DeVos to Give Commencement Speech at Bethune-Cookman

Posted by fitav on

It was announced that Education Secretary Betsy DeVos will deliver the keynote address for Bethune-Cookman University’s commencement on Wednesday, May 10th. Bethune-Cookman is one of the historically black institutions that has recently been praised by Secretary DeVos for providing education opportunities for the Afro-American community.

In making the announcement about Secretary DeVos’ appearance, the school compared her to the school’s founder saying that “much like Dr. Bethune, founder of Bethune-Cookman University, Secretary DeVos deems the importance of opportunity and hope for students to receive an exceptional education experience. Her mission to empower parents and students resonates with the history and legacy of Dr. Bethune.” Dr. Bethune’s started the school in Daytona Beach, Florida, which grew to over 250 students while she served as the university president and was one of the few tertiary institutes in the country where black women could study.

The school also noted the importance of funding from the Federal Education Department to the very existence of Historically Black Universities and Colleges (HBCU) and to Bethune-Cookman specifically. In their official statement announcing the DeVos invitation, the school explained “students are directly impacted by funding dollars that are dispersed through the Department of Education. B-CU receives $4 million annually through Title III, which supports teaching, research and infrastructure. Additionally, Title IV impacts the ability of B-CU students to receive federal financial aid, overall influencing the ascension of Bethune-Cookman University students.”

The school praised Betsy DeVos, individually, for her charitable contributions to the black community. In the press release, the university pointed out that “Over the years, the DeVos family has supported Central Florida through several charitable efforts: 100 Black Men of Central Florida; Jones High School, and the Parramore neighborhood located in Orlando to name a few. Secretary DeVos has supported educational opportunities for students in over 25 states.” Secretary DeVos is daughter of the co-founder of Amway, Richard DeVos, and a philanthropist who has focused on educational opportunity.

Secretary DeVos and the Trump Administration have made a concerted effort since taking office to reach out to the country’s HBCU. In a February meeting with Deans and other leaders from HBCU, DeVos praised HBCU for being innovators and creating opportunities for the black community in the face of racial segregation. In holding them up as a model of school choice, Secretary DeVos said of HBCU that “They are living proof that when more options are provided to students, they are afforded greater access and great quality,” Check this article from New York Post.

Soros joins MasterCard in Humanity Ventures

Posted by fitav on

While more people than ever are on the move in an attempt to escape war and political instability, countries in the developed world are becoming more hesitant about opening their borders to outsiders. In an effort to relieve the conditions that cause massive migration, billionaire philanthropist, George Soros, will join force with financial services company, MasterCard, to create economic opportunity within downtrodden communities worldwide.

In 2016, Soros argued that the developed world had failed in their duty to help refugees and relieve human suffering. In response, the financial wizard pledged $500 million to “invest in startups, established companies, social impact initiatives, and businesses founded by migrants and refugees themselves.” It was announce at the World Economic Forum this January that funds will now be used to initiate a program in conjuncture with the credit card behemoth, MasterCard, called Humanity Ventures. In unveiling the program, Soros stated that “our potential investment in this social enterprise, coupled with MasterCard’s ability to create products that serve vulnerable communities, can show how private capital can play a constructive role in solving social problems,” Read more story at Politico about George Soros.

While still in the planning stages, Humanity Ventures is hoped to stimulate economic development in the Third World. As stated by Ajay Banga, president and CEO of MasterCard, “We can have transformational impact by scaling our business-driven organization to leverage innovation, on-the-ground experience and long-term capital investments.” At first, the plan is to focus on improving the availability of health care and educational services to underserved areas of the world. However, Humanity Ventures could be a clearing house for many different programs to improve local economic development and entrepreneurship. For example, MasterCard has already created a digital voucher platform, MasterCard Aid Network, which has transformed how aid organizations can deliver services. “Over several years, we’ve applied our thinking and technology to help hundreds of millions connect to the formal economy and to help empower safer and more efficient aid distribution,” said Ajay Banga,

Humanity Ventures plans to tackle the chronic joblessness, and financial exclusion that afflict people in developing economies. MasterCard and George Soros believe this program that utilizes private-sector capabilities can spur development and transform life for the most needy

The Kabbalah Centre Expands Its Reach Around the World

Posted by fitav on

The Kabbalah Centre in Los Angeles opened its doors in 1984. Prior to its establishment in Los Angeles, the predecessor to the Kabbalah Centre was operating in New York City.

The organization initially established in New York City was called The National Research Institute of Kabbalah and opened its doors in 1965. It was founded by Rav Philip Berg and Rav Yehuda Tzvi Brandwein.

The New York incarnation was an outgrowth of Yeshivah Kol Yehuda in Israel. Yeshivah Kol Yehuda was founded in 1925, long before the establishment of the Jewish state itself.

The Los Angeles Kabbalah Centre takes a more open approach to accepting people to the study of Kabbalah. Unlike more traditional organizations, the Kabbalah Centre welcomes men and women who do not have a background in Jewish and Hebrew writings.

In addition to its main venue in Los Angeles, the Kabbalah Centre has over 50 branches located around the world. This includes branches in major cities like London, Toronto, and New York City.

In addition to branches, the Kabbalah Centre also has affiliated study groups, also located around the world. People interested in Kabbalah can also access Kabbalah Centre courses over the Internet.

A number of celebrities have become connected with the LA Kabbalah Centre. Perhaps the best known of these celebrities is iconic pop singer Madonna. She has been publicly connected with the LA Kabbalah Centre for about two decades, an association that continues strongly to this day.

In addition to studying Kabbalah, Madonna has been a major financial supporter of the LA Kabbalah Centre. She is responsible for establishing a number of Kabbalah Centre branches.

Madonna is not the first famous person to become associated with the study of Kabbalah. Other iconic people who have practiced and studied Kabbalah include Sammy Davis, Jr., Elizabeth Taylor, and Marilyn Monroe.

Dick DeVos Work History and Exceptional Business

Posted by fitav on

Dick DeVos holds an exceptional experience in the business industry. He has held senior executive positions at the NBS’s Orlando Magic, and Amway. DeVos is the present President of The Windquest Group. DeVos has been the President and CEO of Orlando Magic since 1991. The Windquest Group is private investment management Company with holdings in manufacturing, technology, and other sectors. Windquest has taken a significant stand participating in the innovation of environmentally friendly strategies. In particular, Windquest put forward a project referred to as the Green Machine in which the heat of the industrial waste (emitted with gaseous or liquid wastes) is transformed into electricity.

As from 1993 to 2002, DeVos was the President of Amway where he oversaw the operations of the organization throughout 50-country presence. In 2002, Amway reported $4.5 billion in sales. Amway is an international consumer goods distribution organization. I do attribute DeVos as the key person who facilitated the opening various Amway’s international markets and tripling of international sales. Through his leadership, Amway International became the first organization to have the international sales to exceeding local sales.

DeVos is the President the philanthropic organization titled Dick and Betsy DeVos Family Foundation. DeVos has participated in some community initiatives. He founded the Education Freedom Fund, which had so far awarded over 4,000 academic scholarships to disadvantaged children in Michigan. Besides, he established the West Michigan Aviation Academy that provides a rigorous training program that leans on the aviation industry. DeVos has also been a member of the State Board of Education and co-chaired various Grand Rapids downtown regeneration and local healthcare improvements.

Dick Devos has donated thousands of dollars to education, religious and artistic organizations. The investments include a $212M convention center, $75M downtown arena, $90M medical school, a $130M heart hospital and a $30M Downtown Market. Mr. and Mrs. Devos donated $500,000 to support a private study on Lake Macatawa. The research identified the sources of pollutants to the Lake.

I do recommend for one to read DeVos’ best-selling book titled ‘Rediscovering American Values,’ which was published in 1997. The book can be accessed in seven languages. He is twice National Champion sailor, a graduate of Northwood University, a qualified helicopter and jet aircraft pilot. I do believe that Devos is an active civic leader and as led and facilitated for various local interests such as the Regional Air Alliance of West Michigan and the Grand Action.
